Data on international protection in the first half of 2020
As we read on the website of the Office for Foreigners, 1.3 thousand applications for refugee status in Poland was submitted by foreigners in the first half of this year (almost 650 people submited their application for the first time). 169 people met the conditions for granting international protection. Negative decisions were issued against 1 thousand people, and 730 proceedings were discontinued.
The number of refugee applications in the first half of 2020 was 29 percent lower than in the corresponding period of 2019. The main countries of origin of foreigners applying for international protection were:
- Russia: 819 people;
- Ukraine: 144;
- Tajikistan: 58;
- Georgia: 34;
- Turkey: 34.
In the first half of this year, 169 foreigners met the conditions for granting international protection. They were mainly citizens of Turkey - 47 people, Russia - 38 and Tajikistan - 17. Negative decisions were received by 1,000 foreigners. Mainly citizens of Russia - 582 and Ukraine - 176.
Slightly over 730 proceedings were discontinued. This concerned the vast majority of Russian citizens (581 people). Cases are discontinued when the foreigner has left Poland without waiting for a decision on granting international protection.
